A systematic method of derivation, based on the algebra of irreducible tensors, is given of the two-center expansion of an arbitrary function of the distance. A direct application of the method is made to the case of R^n, n being a positive or negative integer. The obtained result has such an elementary form that it has wide applications to practical purposes.
