The line shapes of the collision-induced infrared absorption spectra in rare gas mixtures are calculated under the assumptions of (1) hard core potential for the intermolecular interaction and (2) van Kranendonk's model for the induced electric dipole moment associated with a pair of colliding unlike molecules. Collision processes are treated classically. The comparison between theory and experiment shows a fairly good agreement except for a systematic deviation in the high frequency tail which presumably comes from the neglect of quantum effects in collision processes. Unsatisfactory features of Levine and Birnbaum's work on the same subject are pointed out.
