We consider a system of trimers and monomers on a triangular lattice that describes the adsorption problem on the (111) 1x1 surface of a diamond crystal structure. We introduce a mapping to a 3-state vertex model on a square lattice. We treat this adsorption problem using the transfer-matrix method combined with a density-matrix algorithm, to obtain thermodynamic quantities.
