Polarization Transfer Invariants at Forward Angle and Spin-Dependent Excitations in Nuclei

We define rotation invariants from polarization transfer coefficients that uniquely specify the magnitude of spin transfer in nuclear reactions. Based on the general form for the scattering amplitude, we show that the forward-angle values of the invariants are determined by symmetry properties alone, providing a signature of target spin-dependent transitions.
