The mechanical stress applied to rat molar promotes the recruitment of osteoclasts in the alveolarboune. Using this experimental model, we examined the relationship between osteoclast recruitment and expression of various leukocyte specific antigens and cell adhesion molecules. The application of mechanical stress resulted in the activation of exudative process in the alveolar bone and periodontalligament. The expression of adhesion molecule, ICAM-1, was found in the late stage of osteoclast differentiation.
