A plan for underground pipelines was presented to take precautions against floods. To simulate and to estimate the two-phase (air-water) flows to arise in the system of underground pipelines, a miniature apparatus scaled to 1/100 was set up in a laboratory. A hydrodynamic phenomenon observed in the apparatus seems to be caused due to surface tension. To examine it, some model equations for flows in a rectangular pipe are derived, in which parameters involved are estimated.
