The CAS Test is a standard test in Japan, derived from what was invented and published by P. B. Cattele and I. H. Sheier in 1957. The scale is widely used to make a character diagnosis of a person by knowing the degree and the kind of his anxiety. Without obtaining a correct understanding of his own character and personality, you cannot give him any effective advice according to his individuality and ability. This is a research report on the results of the CAS Tests applied as screening tests to the freshmen of a women's college in 1976 and 1977. The percentage of the students who marked high points in their inclination to anxiety, that is, who found difficulty in controlling themselves, does not differ so markedly from that of other colleges and universities. Viewed from the inclination of character as a whole, however, there are many who feel themselves stable and enjoy satisfaction. This inclination comes, the reporter believes, from the fact that they are the students of a women's college. That they show a considerably high degree of stability in their interpersonal relation is thought to be the result of their consciusness that they have a common aim and study in the same women's college. They seem to express their emotions relatively freely among themselves and learn easily how to adapt themselves to one another. From this observation it follows that those who marked high points in their inclination to anxiety need individual and close help or guidance, since they are more easily isolated from the group. And the aim of the CAS Test lies in finding these students and giving appropriate guidance to them.
