Also in our Kyoritsu College of Pharmacy, some repeaters or students remaining in the same class tend to stay longer, though they form only a very small percentage of all the repeaters. They show typically one of the features of student apathy and, as such, try to ascertain or think over "what they are". They want, in other words, to find out their self-identity and this tendency is commonly seen also in our ordinary students. From this angle we analysed the results of our questionnaire to the students and could draw two conclusions as follows. First, the answers of our students tell clearly that the person who meets their ideal image, which is strongly concerned with their self-image or self-identity, is one who acts as a subjective agent and has consideration for others and that the abler he is, the better they find him. They seek for such an ideal image in the person relatively close to them in the order of a friend, an acquintance and a parent. In many cases, however, if they choose among the people close to them an ideal person they set up in themselves as a patron of their identity, they must feel too strong pressure from him and the fixation tend consequently to become difficult. Second, the tendency of the families to nuclear ones and the increase of the families under tender fathers and strict mothers compell them to find it difficult to secure a sense of stability under their mothers. This leads them to seek for a sense of stability in their fellow-consciousness with their friends, so that it is definitely important to them whether or not they have friends, for it determines whether or not they fall into a state of apathy.
