It is shown by theory and particle simulation that a quasi-perpendicular magnetosonic shock wave accelerates some resonant ions up to the speed ν∿ν_A (m_i/m_e)^<1/2>×(M_A-1)^<3/2> promptly within the order of the ion cyclotron period, 1/ω_<ci>, times (m_i/m_e)^<1/2>. The final maximum speed in this acceleration is independent of the ion mass, hence the kinetic energy is proportional to the ion mass. We discuss the coronal heating and proton acceleration by magnetosonic shock waves originated from the solar flares, and show that this acceleration mechanism could be important in the solar plasma.
