The stability of the high frequency mode wave propagating in a two-modenonlinear transmission line is analysed, and the condition is found under whichit decays into a pair of low frequency and high frequency waves through parametricinteraction. Two limiting cases (resonant decay instability and modified decayinstability) are convsidered, and for each case the wave ntumber region and themaximum growth rate of the unstable modes are determined.
