Bounce Resonance Heating and Radial Transport of Electrons in Magnetic Mirrors

Power transfer from the DCLC or the AIC mode to electrons and associated radial transport are calculated based upon a bounce-averaged quasilinear theory. The heating mechanism is the electron bounce resonance with the waves in the ion cyclotron frequency range. The analysis includes axial variations of the ambipolar potential and the magnetic field strength. Application of the analysis to 2XIIB and TMX experiments shows that the power transfer from the DCLC is much smaller than the electron-drag power, but that from the AIC can be comparable with it. Futhermore, the radial transport induced by the DCLC or the AIC mode can be larger than the classical end-loss.
