Overview of surface material developments for fusion devices in university linkage organization has been described. Including subjects are surface properties investigations, surface diagonostics, coating technologies tritium related surface problems and permeation studies. Because surface material investigations are wide spread subjects, necessities of problem definitions from plasma physics side were recognized.
