Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>-dispersed ZrO<SUB>2</SUB>-3mol%Y<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> composites have been prepared by slip casting and electrophoretic deposition to compare the sinterability and microstructure, using three commercially-available Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> powders. Composites were prepared by pressureless sintering at 1300°C. The consolidated (green) density, sintered density, grain size and dispersion are compared for both colloidal techniques with the aim of improving the homogeneity and reducing the necessary temperature for sintering.
