Transflective Liquid Crystal Display Using Low Twist Nematic and Electrically Controlled Birefringence Modes by Photoalignment Technology

A new design of single cell gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) using low twist nematic (LTN) and electricity controlled birefringence (ECB) modes has been proposed. The same cell gap is applied to both transmissive and reflective parts; therefore the fabrication process is simple. The two domains can be generated by photoalignment technology with two step exposure on one of the alignment layer. This configuration shows a high contrast, wide viewing angle, fast response and high transmittance/reflectance. Also the fabrication process is easy.
