An achromatic ferroelectric liquid crystal display based on the configuration of double parallel-aligned cells with contrast ratio up to more than $200:1$ has been predicted in simulation. A proto type of such display based on the simulation has been fabricated using photoalignment technology. Under the new double layer structure, a ferroelectric liquid crystal display with high black-to-white contrast ratio and wide viewing angle is obtained for both Transmissive and reflective modes.
