We developed a three-dimensional (3D) and real-time numerical calculation method for analyzing the dynamical behaviors of the reorientation of liquid crystal (LC) directors and of the phase retardation in an LC optical device. The LC optical device design employs an eight-divided circularly hole-patterned electrode structure in a flat nematic cell. The switching property of the elliptical phase retardation in the hole-patterned aperture can be estimated and the transient properties of its phase profile can be predicted fairly well by the calculation.
