The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the read signal from an optical disc was improved by using a new signal conversion technology. Using this technology, a pulsed read signal was converted into a continuous signal without signal amplitude loss, which was unavoidable using conventional method. The technology was tested on a spin-stand, and it was demonstrated that the SNR can be improved by decreasing the incident laser pulse duty and the feasibility of improving the bit error rate over two magnitudes.
