The transmission spectroscopy applicable to the measurements of the lattice-vibration modes of molecular ices in the terahertz region (0.6–3.6 THz) has been demonstrated by Fourier-transform infrared technique with a modified, commercially available mid-infrared spectrometer. A representative example is given by the high-resolution laboratory spectrum of solid carbon monoxide at a cryogenic temperature of 12 K, where two absorption bands, arising from the lattice vibrations of the species, were observed. Similar laboratory works can be carried out on other molecular ices of astrophysical significance.
