Influence of Load Resistance on Higher Harmonic Voltages Generated in a Piezoelectric Transformer

The higher harmonic voltages observed in the input side of a Rosen-type piezoelectric transformer under high power vibration were studied using constant-current method. The higher harmonic voltages were mainly formed with large second harmonic and small third harmonic voltages, and showed strong dependence on load resistance. This is due to the fact that the current component, which drives the transformer through piezoelectricity, is dependent on the load resistance. This suggestion was confirmed by the measurements of sample temperature and displacement, and by calculation of the output resistance converted to the input side.
