We propose a novel optical signal regeneration system using cascaded wavelength converters based on cross-gain modulation in semiconductor optical amplifiers. The signal intensity fluctuations at high and low levels are suppressed by nonlinearity of the optical input/output characteristics at the first and second wavelength converters, respectively. In addition, the use of local CW light with low noise effects signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement. By using this system, optical received power at bit error rate (BER) = $10^{-9}$ was improved by 4.1 dB compared with that for a degraded signal. We verified the capability of the optical signal regeneration function of the proposed cascaded systems.
