We investigated the educational effects of a training program in breast cancer screening using mammography for obstetricians and gynecologists. The training program was organized as a special lecture in the clinico-pathological aspects of breast cancer and diagnostic practice for mammography screening by the committee of the educational training programs for breast cancer screening using mammography, the Japan Association of Breast Cancer Screening. The mean diagnostic sensitivity for breast cancer mammograms was significantly increased from 56.4% to 78.6% after the training program. The mean diagnostic sensitivity of the classification for category was also increased significantly from 37.9% to 64.9%. However, the mammographic findings of architectural distortion or a spiculated mass without a central mass were more difficult to diagnose than findings of calcification and a nodular or lobulated mass.<BR>In conclusion, this practical training program in mammography was very effective for general obstetricians and gynecologists.
