Screen-film mammography has been the most successful approach for earlier detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. For mammography to achieve high sensitivity and specificity, all aspects of the imaging process must be optimized.<BR>This paper describes recent developments in breast imaging technology, including the design of the X-ray equipment, detector (screen-film system), and processing used for mammography. The methods for acceptance testing and quality control in mammography are also described.
