A case of endometrial stromal tumor diagnosed by transcervical resection.

Endometrial stromal tumor is a rare disease accounting for less than 10％ of all uterine mesenchymal tumors. The World Health Organization classifies endometrial stromal tumors into 3 categories based on morphologic features: endometrial stromal nodule (ESN), low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LGESS), and undifferentiated endometrial sarcoma (UES).<BR> ESN is the least common of the endometrial stromal tumors, and it is important to distinguish ESN from LGESS because their prognoses are totally different.<BR> A 38-year-old, 2G2P woman presented with abnormal genital bleeding. The hemoglobin was 9.5g/dl, but other laboratory investigations were normal. She was preoperatively diagnosed with degenerated myoma by transvaginal ultrasonography and MRI which revealed a 3cm tumor of the uterine cavity. The patient underwent hysteroscopic resection, and postoperative course was uneventful. However, the final postoperative pathological diagnosis was endometrial stromal tumor. But it was difficult to determine whether ESN or LGESS. The patient was followed regularly, and no local or distant recurrence of the disease was noted for 10 months since initial operation.
