The influence of BKU (urapidil retard capsules) on diurnal variations of blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension.

The Influence of BKU (urapidil retard capsules) on diurnal variations of bloodpressure was investigated in 25 patients with essential hypertension. The drug wasgiven at 60-120 mg daily in divided doses for a period of 5-32 days (average 11.1days). Blood pressure and heart rate were measured at 9 time-points from 7: 00 a.m.to 7: 00 a.m. in the next morning before and after treatment.<BR>Blood pressure was reduced at each time-point, but diurnal variations of bloodpressure was not affected by administration of BKU. There was no alteration in heartrate. The drug did not cause undue effects on urine volume and body weight of thepatients. No serious side effects attributable to the drug were noted in any patients.<BR>These results suggest that BKU twice daily may be an effective and safe drug intreating essential hypertension.
