To elucidate motor function of the stomach manometric as well as electromyographic study of the pylorus of the canine stomach was carried out following transections and end-to-end anastomoses at various levels such as proximal 1/3, and 1/2, distal 1/3 and 1/4, and 4, 3, 2, and 1 cm from the pyloric ring.
The hyperfunction of the pylorus with higher contraction pressure, prolonged discharge interval and more frequent anti-peristalsis appeared following transections between the levels of 1/2 of the organ and 4 cm from the pyloric ring. The most remarkable hyperfunction was noted following the distal 1/3 transection.
Following transections within 2 cm from the pyloric ring, hyperfunction of the pyloric ring was still present on electromyogram but the contraction pressure became below the control value.
