The electroreduction of [Co(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)(NH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>5</SUB>]<SUP>+</SUP>, [Co(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)(NH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>4</SUB>]<SUP>+</SUP>, [Co(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)(tn)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUP>+</SUP>, [Co(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)(pn)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUP>+</SUP>, [Co(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)(en)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUP>+</SUP>, and [Co(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(en)]<SUP>−</SUP> (tn=trimethylenediamine, pn=propylenediamine, en=ethylenediamine) have been studied at mercury electrodes in weak acid solutions. All complexes exhibit two irreversible reduction waves; the first corresponds to Co<SUP>III</SUP>→Co<SUP>II</SUP>, and the second, to Co<SUP>II</SUP>→Co<SUP>0</SUP>. The kinetic parameters of the electrode reactions of the first step were determined by means of Tast and pulse polarography in solutions containing 0.005 M sodium acetate-acetic acid buffer (pH=6) and 0.995 M sodium nitrate at 25 °C. The differential pulse polarograp hic characteristics of these complexes are also given.
