Various alkyl aryl trithiocarbonates may readily be synthesized in good yield at low temperatures such as 20 °C by allowing trioctylmethylammonium chloride (phase-transfer catalyst) to catalyze reaction of benzenethiols and alkyl halides with carbon disulfide.
