The zeta potentials of γ-Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> and TiO<SUB>2</SUB> were measured as a function of the amount of water-soluble titanate coupling agents added in aqueous solution. Compared with untreated samples, the zeta potential of γ-Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> increased negatively with an increase of the amount of water-soluble titanate coupling agents, while that of TiO<SUB>2</SUB> changed little. Furthermore, after a washing process, it was confirmed by ESCA measurement that a certain amount of water-soluble titanate coupling agent still remained on the surface of the γ-Fe<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>.
