Carbon-13 NMR data of 14 2-substituted thiophenes were obtained in CDCl<SUB>3</SUB>. The correlation between the carbon chemical shifts and the Hammet constants was poor. The charge densities of typical compounds were calculated by the CNDO/2 method and they discussed in connection with the observed C-13 chemical shifts.
