Absolute configuration and circular dichroism spectrum of all-cis(NO2,N,O)-(-)4C5D0(Co(NO2)2(gly)2)- complex.

An X-Ray analysis of <I>all-cis</I>(<I>NO</I><SUB>2</SUB>,<I>N</I>,<I>O</I>)-(−)<SUB>450</SUB><SUP>CD</SUP>K[Co(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(gly)<SUB>2</SUB>]·1/2H<SUB>2</SUB>O has been carried out. The crystal form is trigonal, <I>P</I>3<SUB>1</SUB>21, with <I>a</I>=10.747(1), <I>c</I>=18.589(4) Å and <I>Z</I>=6. The structure was refined by a block-diagonal least-squares method to a final <I>R</I> value of 0.047 for 3207 independent reflections with |<I>F</I><SUB>o</SUB>|>3σ(|<I>F</I><SUB>o</SUB>|). The absolute configuration of the (−)<SUB>450</SUB><SUP>CD</SUP>[Co(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(gly)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUP>−</SUP> ion has been determined to be <I>Δ</I>(<I>R</I>). By comparing the CD spectrum of <I>Δ</I>(<I>R</I>)-[Co(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(gly)<SUB>2</SUB>]<SUP>−</SUP> with that of a related <I>Λ</I>(<I>R</I>)-[Co(NO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>(en)(ox)]<SUP>−</SUP> complex, the optical activities of these complexes have been concluded to be derived largely from helical distributions of chelate rings.
