2,2′-Dihydroxy-6,6′-dimethylbiphenyl (<B>1</B>) was successfully resolved into its optically pure forms by the recrystallization of the diastereomeric salts derived from the hydrogenphosphate of <B>1</B> and cinchonidine or quinine. The dextrorotatory <B>1</B> was determined to have R-configuration.
