A large amount of diene compounds was found to form in the isomerizations of cyclohexene and 1-methylcyclohexene oxides catalyzed by solid acids and bases in gas phase. The catalysts which were quite inactive in liquid phase showed unexpectedly high activities in gas phase, indicating the different catalytic actions.
