Deuterium atom distribution of butenes in the coisomerization of <I>cis</I>-2-butene <I>d</I><SUB>0</SUB>/<I>d</I><SUB>8</SUB> over MoO<SUB>3</SUB> and MoO<SUB>3</SUB>–SiO<SUB>2</SUB> indicates that the reaction involves intermolecular hydrogen transfer for both catalysts. Butenvs produced over deuterium-exchanged MoO<SUB>3</SUB>–SiO<SUB>2</SUB> contain deuterium atoms, those produced over deuterium-exchanged MoO<SUB>3</SUB> none.
