Esters of β-keto thiocarboxylic <I>S</I>-acids (<B>5</B>) were synthesized from <I>S</I>-ethyl bromothioacetate (<B>1</B>), through a reaction sequence involving the reduction of sulfonium ylides (<B>4</B>) with zinc in acetic acid.
