Oropharyngeal carcinoma, which did not respond to radiotherapy, recurred twice after surgery. The patient was a 58-year-old woman with squamous cell carcinoma of the anterior faucial pillar (T1N0M0). The cancer did not respond to irradiation with 60Co 55Gy, and recurred twice, 4 years and 6 years after partial pharyngectomy. The pantomogram revealed bony destruction of the mandible at the time of the second recurrence. Intraarterial infusion of adriamycin 100mg and 5-Fluorouracil 5000mg in addition to irradiation with 60Co 22Gy resulted in marked shrinking of the tumor. We performed segmental mandiblectomy and transplantation of an iliac bone. Although the transplanted bone was twice infected, she has had no recurrence of the tumor and satisfacting function of the jaw joint.
