Estimation of the Moisture Adsorption and Desorption Characteristics of Charcoal from Waste Wood

Utilization of charcoal from waste wood as a humidity control material has been an attractive option in waste wood recycling.In order to spread this usage, assessing the quality of charcoals as humidity control materials is important.The Test Method for adsorption and desorption Efficiency of Building Materials to Regulate Indoor Humidity (JIS A 1470-1) was adapted to estimate the adsorption and desorption characteristics of charcoal from waste wood carbonized in several conditions.<BR>The following results were obtained.<BR>1) The Test Method for adsorption and desorption Efficiency of Building Materials to Regulate Indoor Humidity (JIS A 1470-1) is useful for estimating the adsorption and desorption characteristics of charcoal.<BR>2) The adsorption and desorption characteristics of the tested waste wood charcoal were the same as those of charcoals that were reported in previous studies.<BR>3) The adsorption and desorption efficiency of the charcoal increased as the carbonizing temperature increased from 650 to 920°C.
