Two cases of osteochondritis dissecans of the lateral femoral condyle associated with lateral discoid menisci.

The pathogenesis of osteochondritis dissecans of the distal femur has been a controversial subject. We present two cases with osteochondritis dissecans of the lateral femorol condyle which were associated with lateral discoid menisci. The first case was a 17-year-old female who had had slight pain in her left knee since she was 8 years old. She had severe pain after direct blow to her left knee. Radiographs showed osteocartilaginous body in a subarficular location within the left lateral femoral condyle posteriorly. An arthrogram showed lateral imcomplete discoid meniscus. The second case was an 11-year-old female who had complete excision of the left lateral complete discoid meniscus four years ago. Three years postoperatively, she had severe pain in her left knee after gymnastic exercises. Radiographs showed osteochondrific lesion on the lateral femoral condyle. At surgery, curettage and fixation of the osteochondral fragment with autogenous bone pegs were performed for the first case, and bone peg fixation only for the second case.
