• Synovial hemangioma of the knee joint is a relatively rare disease, and the diagnosis is often difficult. We treated a case of synovial hemangioma of the left knee joint, who was suffering from pain and repeated bloody of effusions. A 17-year-old girl was hospitalized in December 1987 with symptoms of pain, swelling, local heat and tenderness at her left knee joint. A soft, tender, doughy mass was palpable. Routine roentgenograms, magnetic resonance image, computerized tomographic scan and angiography were assist in diagnosis. Arthroscopy disclosed a large hemangiomatous mass embeded in the synovium of the medial wall. All involved synovium was excised in addition to the mass. Histological examination proved this lesion to be a synovial hemangioma. The patient had an uneventful recovery.
