Twenty-four intertrochanteric fractures had been fixed with the titanium captured hip screw and five with a conventional stainless steel sliding device. The mean operating time using the former was four-minute shorter than that using the latter.Titanium is less stiff and stronger than stainless steel. Because of that, the titanium casptured hip screw can have keyless system. That has given simpler and quicker operation using the titanium device than using the stainless steel one. Titanium also produced less soft-tissue reaction than stainless steel.It is concluded that the titanium captured hip screw is a promising device for intertrochanteric fractures that often occur in the elderly people.
