This paper reports a rare case of brown tumor of the femur aasociated with primary hyperparathyroidism. A 71-year-old woman had pain in her right thigh and the radiogram showed general severe osteopenia, subperiosteal resorption and an expansive cyst-like cavity of the femur. General and clinical findings suggested that hyperparethyroidism caused the multiple bone lesions, including a local radiolucent lesion of the femur.Biochemical analysis revealed high level of serum PTH and calcium. The enhanced computed tomogram showed a cervical parathyroid tumor. The tumor was extirpated, and was histologically diagnosed as parathyroid adenoma. Six weeks after the surgery the radiolucent area of the femoral bone was slightly improved, becoming sclerotic on the radiogram.
