On the Dynamic Characteristics of Slurry Tank System and Their Stabilization by means of Feedback Control

In the previous papers, a slurry tank was replaced by a mathematical model composed of a transtortation lag and a pure delay. Thus, the instability of the oscillation of the concentration of the outgoing slurry was anticipated. This instability would be prevented if the concentration of the outgoing slurry were detected and if the speed of the pulp supply to the slurry tank were controlled. Unfortunately, the continuous detection of the slurry concentration is very difficult, if not impossible.<BR> In the present paper, the author has analyzed the dynamic characterisyics of the whole system from the slurry tank slurry press. The analysis has relayed the pressure of the surge tank to the concentration of the outgoing slurry. The pressure of the surge tank is easily detected. The steed of the pulp supply to the slurry tank is regulated through a servo mechanism actuated by the pressure of the surge tank. The characteristic equation of the whole system, including the servo, is derived and transformed into a form suitable for the use of the Satche method. Hence, the whole system can easily be stabilized, even if the pure delay is longer than the transportation lag. Again, the feedback control ameliorates the frequency response of the whole system.
