Six stationary flats equipped with metallic clothing were set on a card equipped with metallic card clothing on the cylinder, between the lickerin and the ordinary revolving flats equipped with wire fillet clothing. Two kinds of metallic clothing were tested as the clothing mounted on the six stationary flats; namely, the ordinary metallic clothing which is used for flats of cards for processing chemical fibers and a special clothing whose toothe density is low and whose tooth shape is modified. The experimental results are as follows : 1) The flat strip on the revolving flats on the card equipped with stationary flats is less than that on the ordinary card. Especially, the strip on the card equipped with the special clothing is about 10% less. 2) Long fibers in the flat strip are less in weight than long fiber on the ordinary card. This reduces the loss of usable long fibers. 3) Large-size seed fragments and pieces of trash in the flat strip are much fewer than those on the ordinary cardm while those of small size are more. Nipe of all sizes in the flat strip are also fewer. 4) Seed fragments of all sizes in . the sliver are fewer than on the ordinary card. Especially, those of large size are much fewer. 5) The staple length of fibers is not spoiled by stationary flats. 6) No trash sticks to stationary flats equipped with the special clothing even after a continuous running test for a long time and the stationary flats can serve continuously without stripping or cleaning.
