The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and problems of restoration activities and in the rainforest of the Atherton Tableland, Northeast Australia, from the viewpoint of regional alliances. Using research literature and field surveys, 12 organizations involved in restoration activities in the rainforest area were investigated. This study showed that government, research and education organizations, and environmental NPOs carried out restoration activities through alliances, in which different sectors cooperated in a mutually complementary relationship. The issues included 1) obtaining grants from a broad range of organizations to restore the rainforest, 2) the necessity of strategy involving local citizens to the restoration activities by activating public information and educational programs.
