Since the diethanolamine solution of maleic hydrazide is used for budding suppression chemicals of tubers such as those of potatoes, the determination of maleic hydrazide in the said chemicals is required in connection with their application. In the previous paper of this series, the authors reported the polarographic determination of maleic hydrazide in chemicals when lithium chloride was used for the supporting electrolyte. In this study the authors examined polarograms of maleic hydrazide using buffer-solutions of various pH as the supporting electrolyte. The results indicated that the waves of maleic hydrazide obtained the buffer solutions of pH 3 to 7 were well-defined one-step waves and were not interfered by the amount of diethanolamine present. The half-wave potentials at pH 3 and pH 7 were -0.99 and -1.84 V. <I>vs</I>. N. C. E. respectively, and the relation between the wave height and the concentration of maleic hydrazide was proportional. Then the polarographic determination of maleic hydrazide in chemicals is possible under the conditions mentioned above.<BR>Sodium salt of maleic hydrazide was also investigated in the supporting electrolytes of pH 3 and pH 7. The polarograms were quite the same as those of maleic hydrazide and the half-wave potentials were -0.99 and -1.84 V. <I>vs</I>. N. C. E., which are the same as those of maleic hydrazide. The relation between the wave height and the concentration of sodium salt of maleic hydrazide was also found proportional.
