A study is made concerning the accuracy of quantometric analysis of iron and steel when the standard and the sample are at different temperatures and when there is segregation on chilled sample surface.<BR>The obtained results are summarized as follows.<BR>(1) The intensity and most of the intensity ratios of all the spectral lines are affected by the sample temperature.<BR>When the temperature difference between the standard and the sample is under 40 deg.C, the error on observed results is within the allowable limit.But, when the low voltage spark method is used for Si, Mn, Cr and Mo in cast iron, the error may become serious.<BR>(2) When there is segregation on chilled surface, the removing of oxide surface film generally -ensures the analytical accuracy except for the cases of Cu and P for which the scraping off of at least 0.5 mm surface layer is needed to prevent from obtaining undue analytical values.
