To investigate the relationship between the host immune state and the difference of infection pattern of Duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV), each 5 ducklings of 1, 7, 14 and 42 day old were immunized with Brucella abortsu and Rabbit erythrocyte and the titer of antibody against these immunogens was measured by microtitration assay weekly after the immunization.
Inoculation of DHBV on 1 day, 7 day and on above 14 day posthatch resulted in persistent, transient and non-infection respectively. Significant difference was seen in immune response at the first week after immunization between ducklings immunized on 1 day old and those on above 7 days old. Peak titer of antibodies were not significantly different among these ducklings.
Investigation of immune response in ducklings treated with immuno-regulatory drugs showed no significant difference both in ducks treated with OK-432 and steroid. Treatment with cyclophosphamide decrease the immune response and the poor immune response was well associated with the elongation of viremia.
Therefore, difference of the infection pattern of DHBV appeared to be closely associated with the immune state of duckling.
