1) Intermediates of heme biosynthesis and aminolaevulinate dehydratase of the glucose-grown and the ethanol-grown yeast cells were investigated.<BR>2) Aminolaevulinate dehydratase was higher in the ethanol-grown cells than in the glucose-grown cells.<BR>3) Porphobilinogen and coproporphyrin, among other intermediates of heme biosynthesis so far examined, were higher in the glucose-grown cells than in the ethanol-grown cells.<BR>4) It is concluded that glucose depresses soluble enzymes as well as mitochondrial enzymes responsible for heme biosynthesis.
