Posterior proctopexy by using malex mesh (modified ripstein's operation) for the treatment of rectal prolapse. Experiences in 4 cases.

We have performed posterior proctopexy by using Marlex mesh (modified Ripstein's Operation) in 4 patients with complete rectal prolapse between January 1985 and June 1989. <BR>Transabdominal proctopexy is a method of choice for the treatment devised by taking into account the disadvantage of Ripstein's techniqe of rectal prolapse and several authors have reported excellent results. Our procedure was ; the mesh was fixed on the center of the pelvic surface of the sacrum and wrapped the rectum leaving its anterior surface free. The rectum was being drawn upwards. There were no death or intraabdominal infection or other major complications. No recurrence was found during follow-up period, ranging from 5 months to 4 years. Satisfactory results were obtained in all patients. <BR>And the better material is considered to be an absorbable mesh, and the possibility of applying such material to the present procedure is discussed.
