Amixed culture of soybean cells and some strains of Rhizobium developed nitrogenase activity which was determined by reduction of acetylene. The acetylene reduction activity of the mixed culture was revealed in the period when the respiratory activity of soybean cells was maintained at their original level. Effective strains of Rhizobium for soybean produced higher acetylene reduction activity than ineffective strains.
