The history of the development of molecular genetics has generally been understood as a flow sheet of stepwise and logical consequences of preceding pioneering experiments. Several classical works represented by biochemical genetics at nineteen forties by Beadle and Tatum, transformation experiments by Avery, and quantitative works introduced by bacteriophage group led by Delbruck attracted attention to nucleic acid as an entity responsible for carrying the genetic information. These classical works together with the succeeding chemical and physical analyses of nucleic acid culminated in the proposal of molecular model of DNA and central dogma by Watson and Crick, which in turn promoted the rapid establishments of DNA model and central dogma. It concerns especially with the way how the pioneering works of molecular biology were recieved by the scientific trend of the time they met. An the first half, it is described that the contemporary acceptances of classical experiments such as transformation and one which led one gene one enzyme theory were confused and far from preparing central dogma. At the latter half, discussion are made also on the features of the leading concepts of biology in these days, which were in nature not only in accord with the current of rising experiments of molecular biology, but supressed reasonable estimations of them. On the contrary, the establishments of DNA model and central dogma were facilitated as the experimental evaluations began to get out of the influences of these concepts. 1. It is protein that is responsible for genetic characteristics. 2. Molecule itself as well as cellular constituents is in the state of dynamic equilibrium, whose break down and reconstitution take place repeatedly. 3. Enzyme synthesis is determined not decisively only by genetic factors but also by environmental factors.
